There have been several highlights this week in a typically busy week in school.
At lunchtimes there is a huge range of clubs and activities going on and the big one this week was our annual Ninja Warrior Competition on Tuesday and Wednesday. It is always tremendous fun both for the competitors and those who watch and very well done to everyone who took part. The atmosphere was fantastic and it was enjoyed by all. Meanwhile the interform House football at lunchtime rolls on, even in the snow, the sleet and the rain …
The talents and aptitudes of our students in expressive arts have also been showcased this week. Wednesday evening saw the A Level and GCSE Dance Recital which was great – creative, innovative and poised in equal measures, the performances were simply superb. On Thursday evening it was the Spring Concert and it was simply wonderful. There were a great many highlights – too many to list them all – but I know that the strings group is making a lot of people very happy and it was a delight to hear them as it was all of the performers. What struck me at both events was not just the talents of the performers but also their commitment to supporting each other: it is of course great to have the former but it is the latter which we value and cherish in these young people.
As families are aware, members of the National Education Union are currently scheduled to strike on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March in their dispute with the Government. I will write again at the start of next week with further details of arrangements for the days but at the moment the school’s intention is to have Years 7, 8, 10, 11, 12 and 13 in school on Wednesday with Year 9 being set remote learning and for Years 7, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 to be in school on Thursday with Year 8 being set remote learning. Thank you as ever for everyone’s understanding with this situation.
Finally, very well done to our Year 13 students for their approach to their mock examinations over the past couple of weeks – they are working very hard indeed and I am sure that they will reap the rewards when they received their results in August.
