Wednesday evening saw all of our Year 7 students perform as The Merry Wanderers in a promenade production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was a fantastic performance full of zest and enthusiasm, humour and commitment with everyone being involved and we are very proud of them all. It was the first time we have done something like this and it essentially was a workshop piece which became something much bigger due to there being 240 young people performing. The Hall was full, the atmosphere lovely and everyone had a great time. I have to thank our English team for all of their work, the Bright Torches theatre company for their considerable input, guidance and support and the Merchant Taylors’ Company for the providing the funding grant which enabled us to run the project which became the production – as ever, the support from the Company for Wallingford School is significant and very much appreciated.

As part of Wednesday’s event the Wallingford School Association provided refreshments and I would like to thank them for their support of the event and also for holding a very successful Quiz Night last Friday which raised almost £800 towards this year’s aim of buying some more outdoor seating for students to use at break and lunchtime. The WSA are also running a Christmas Raffle, tickets are £1 each and are available at www.peoplesfundraising.com/raffle/wsa-christmas-raffle-24.  As ever, their time and support as volunteers is appreciated and makes a real difference to our school.

Finally, there have been House assemblies this week full of the usual cocktail of competitive spirit and fun and the Where’s Wally competition focusing on stretch and challenge for all students continues with the unscrambled words so far being algebra and analogous.
