It has been an exciting week in school with lots of engaging activities including (amongst other things) a visit and talk from children’s writer Larry Hayes, author of The Nightmares of Finnegan Quick, for our Year 7 students, our Year 8 students enjoying their bowling trip, a number of sports fixtures at the start of the new term and rehearsals ongoing for our whole school production of Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in two weeks’ time.

The highlight of the week has undoubtedly been a group of our Sixth Form students having the opportunity to listen to, and meet, Dr Martin Stern in preparation for Holocaust Memorial Day on 27th January. More about Dr Stern can be found here - Holocaust Memorial Day Trust | Martin Stern MBE – and his story is both moving and remarkable - and vitally important. I would like to thank Reverend Bruce Thompson for providing our students and staff with an opportunity which they will never forget and Dr Stern for his generosity with his time.

School is of course about lessons and exams but is also about a richness of experience which come from shared activities, encountering new things and grabbing hold of opportunities. Sometimes something comes along which cuts even deeper than that for a young person and will stay with them for the rest of their lives and listening to Dr Stern is such a moment which we know will shape these young people’s values and lives for the future.
