Outside the museum

We were delighted to take the Humanities stars to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford on Wednesday 11th February. We were met by one of their education officers who was able to show us to the Ancient Egypt and Nubia exhibition where we could look at mummies and try to decipher the hieroglyphics.

After this, students were given some free time to explore the wonders of the museum - which is a real treasure trove of artefacts. Some highlights were mapping the Silk Road in Asia and looking at some more abstract art from Europe. Seeing these artefacts was a great way to understand the cross over between Geography, History and Religious Studies and how these subjects stretch deep into a cultural past that has clearly shaped the way the Western World exists today. A great afternoon!
