Aston University have a two day residential programme for Electronic and Communications Engineering, running fromMonday 6th - Tuesday 7th July. It is open to Year 12 students currently studying A Level Maths and Physics, A Level Electronics or Computing, or who have a keen interest in studying Electrical Engineering for Higher Education.

The two day Residential costs £150 per student and will provide an excellent opportunity for students to work alongside experienced professionals and learn about the world of electrons, photons and waves, and how these drive our high speed communications. Through classroom and lab sessions students will develop their knowledge of the components and systems that make up our global communications network and gain an insight into studying an Engineering related course at University. Students will also have the chance to experience 'student life' by staying overnight in our student halls of residences on our city-centre campus.

What will students be doing on the residential?

• Learning about the principles of soldering and circuit design and putting these techniques into practice

• Working in small teams to transmit sound from an MP3 player to an audio amp through the use of optical fibres, lasers, transmitters and receivers

• Experimenting with simulation software which uses mathematical models to analyse, organise, and evaluate content to prototype circuits

• Improving skills in team building, communication and problem solving as well as enhancing their CV and UCAS Application

Please find attached the programme and application form for the residential. Students must individually complete the application form and send it back to the University's Schools Liaison Officer via email or post, with their payment (contact details are on the Booking Form).

Closing date for applications is Friday 19th June but places are allocated on a first come first served basis - apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
