A message from Mr Lamb, Assistant Head Teacher and Director of Sixth Form:

Dear Parents,

A reminder that I am holding an information evening for parents on Tuesday 23rd June. This will take place from 6-7pm in the Sixth Form.

The focus is Higher Education - the process that students need to go through if they are aiming for University. It is vital that as parents, you are aware of the steps students need to take and can support them through what will be a busy time. I will go through the UCAS process, including course searches, Open Day visits, application forms, references, personal statements and deadlines for each stage.

I am holding the event at this time, since we are starting the UCAS process with students this term. It also links with Enrichment Week (w/c 29th June) and I will outline the activities students will be taking part in.

For parents of students who are still unsure about whether University is for them, I would suggest attending the evening, since more information can only help in the decision-making process.

For students who have no intention of going on to University, we are providing a range of support. This starts during Enrichment Week, when we will be considering apprenticeships, employment, foundation degrees, gap years, CV-writing and interviews, as well as visiting some local employers.

I hope by the end of this term, that every Year 12 student feels that they have received the information they require, in order to take the next steps after Sixth Form with confidence that it is the right pathway for them. As always, I am very happy to discuss ways in which we can support them better, so please don't hesitate to contact me.

The Higher Education Information Evening on Tuesday, is an important opportunity for parents to play their part in supporting students, and I look forward to seeing you there.

Kind regards,

Mr N Lamb
