Converting SMART Notebook files

If you have files in SMART Notebook format (versions 8, 9, 9.5 or 10), these can be imported into ActivInspire.

How successful this operation is, I don't know - the usual problems are slight changes in layout and loss of functionality (if you've used any fancy SMART book features).  It may be possible to recreate certain features in ActivInspire.

Reports of experiences are welcome in the discussion forum.

How To Import

In ActivInspire, got to File > Import > SMART Notebook file (v8, v9, v9.5, v10).

You'll then be asked to locate the .notebook file.

Follow any instructions.

Dealing with Certain Problems

I can't say for certain your experiences will be the same, but these are a couple of problems I've encountered when importing a notebook file:

Problem: I can't move anything!

Solution: Switch to Design Mode (press F2 on the keyboard, or click on the blue icon Design Mode icon - blue on the title bar so that it turns orange Design Mode icon - orange).  You should now be able to move things.

Problem: The text is invisible!

Solution: This is a weird one.  If you double click the text box, the text appears, but disappears again when you click off.  To get round it, double-click the text and select it all.  Then click and drag off the text box.  You'll create an identical copy of the text, except this one will be visible!
