Year 8 students on the Dieppe trip return today. Here are a few of things they got up to while away this week.

On Wednesday, they visited the war museum where they learnt about the Allied raid on Dieppe in 1942. Lots of soldiers lost their lives, but the raid helped to prepare the way for the Normandy landings in 1944.

They were privileged to meet a French WW2 veteran who escaped a POW camp to get to Britain and fight with General de Gaulle and the Free French. An amazing man who made a great impression on them all.

In the afternoon they went swimming and did some shopping in Dieppe town centre, then spent some time on the beach in the evening!

On Thursday, they went to the Canadian cemetery where they saw the graves of those who died in the raid on Dieppe. Then they visited the market in Pavilly where students practised their French.

After a picnic lunch they visited the castle and port in Dieppe, and hoped to return to the beach that evening.
