This fundraising event supports four of our year 12 students who will be sailing across the Atlantic this summer to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower Voyage, which carried the first pilgrims from Plymouth, UK to Plymouth, Boston, USA.
The students have to fundraise £8000 towards this amazing challenge and are therefore holding a Bag2School fundraising event to raise money for their voyage, but to also to help countries in need of clothes and help the environment by diverting unwanted textiles away from landfill.
Bags were given out to students at the end of January, to fill with old clothes, shoes and textiles, and will be collected tomorrow morning (Tuesday 11th February, 8.30am). Students should bring their bags to the bus bays and place them in the designated area for their House. There will be a house point prize for the House that brings in the most bags!!
(If you haven’t received a Bag2School bag, or have more than one bag to fill, please do use a bin bag.)
We accept the following ‘good quality’ items for RE-USE*:
- Men’s, Ladies’ and Children’s clothing
- Paired shoes (tied together or elastic band around)
- Handbags
- Hats
- Bags
- Scarves and ties
- Jewellery
- Lingerie
- Socks
- Belts
- Soft toys
- Household linen
- Household curtains
- Household towels
- Household bedding (bed sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers
We DO NOT accept:
- Duvets and blankets
- Pillows and cushions
- Carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats)
- Soiled, painted, ripped or wet clothing
- School uniforms with and without logo
- Corporate clothing and workwear
- Textile off cuts, yarns or threaded material
