It has been a really good week back in school after the half-term break. I have led assemblies with Hope, one of our Year 13 Student Leadership Team, on the topic of Disability History Month. To be honest, they have been Hope’s assemblies and she has spoken brilliantly on the history of rights for people with disabilities, opportunities for disabled people in the workplace and the topic of non-visible disabilities. As ever, I won’t go into too much more detail about the assemblies – please do ask those who were present at home as they have been fascinating.
As always at this time of year we are selling poppies to mark Remembrance Day and will have a two minutes’ silence on Monday with the last post being played; we know that many of us rarely carry coins on us nowadays but any contributions to the collection are always appreciated and we have also set up a Just Giving page for donations.
Two upcoming events to highlight are next week’s Sixth Form Open Evening and the WSA Quiz on Friday 22nd November; the former is always a hugely informative evening when we welcome our Year 11 students and a large number of students from other schools to find out more about our Sixth Form while the latter is being revived after a few dormant years and is always a great evening which raises considerable funds to support the school.
Finally, our programme of extra-curricular clubs and activities rolls on and this week we have seen a great new addition with the first lunchtime session for Lego Club after the success of last year’s inter-house Lego Bridge Building Competition – it was very well-attended and great fun was had by all.
