On 27th November 2014, a group of 6th Form business students from Wallingford School visited the Sky Academy lab in Brentford, London. The day started off with an introduction explaining what the students would be participating in throughout the day.

Interactive Sky Wall Interactive Sky Wall

We began by creating our own Sky account so that we were able to interact with Sky's new extraordinary Interactive Wall. We then sat down in three groups and discussed what Sky, the company, was all about. We were able to ask questions about the company and discussed what good employability skills are. We then took part in a Q&A session with one of the Sky management team, who spoke about their career path.

We were split into two groups. One group went on a full tour around the Sky facilities and studios, whilst the others were lucky enough to meet the Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling. We learnt about high definition and super high definition, how long it takes for a broadcast to get on TV, and now know that watching live TV is actually 3 seconds behind reality!

After lunch, we split up into groups again and began a business challenge. This involved creating a marketing strategy using examples, such as 'a women's channel called Sky Venus' and many other exciting challenges such as developing a new Sky project or how to improve customer service.

The day ended with looking at our personal skill sets and how this experience had possibly encouraged us to consider a career with Sky and what qualifications would be required by the company.

We would like to thank Megan, Jafar, Lisa and all the other Sky employees who made the day such a valuable and enjoyable experience.

- Jack, Year 12

Following last week's successful visit, Sky have kindly invited a group of our Media students back for a visit, so watch this space for further updates.
