Wallingford MUN Team Update

The delegates grew in confidence on the third day of the MUN conference. Allies had been found through lobbying and experience gained through speaking in front of the committees. In the afternoon, all committees, except for the Security Council and the Historic Security Council, came together for the General Assembly. Here, delegates spoke before the 300 strong conference about the resolutions which they felt should be passed - resolutions which would impact the economy, the environment and the lives of men, women and children everywhere. Aware that these ideas were presented in a simulation of the United Nations, and keen to have a genuine impact on the world, a resolution to donate 1000 euros to a NGO was fiercely debated, with Medecins sans Frontiers finally becoming the beneficiaries.

It was sad to leave after three days of lively debate, and we had all made many new acquaintances and grown to understand the processes and machinations of the MUN. We had enjoyed living with our host families for three days and soaking up the atmosphere of Lyon. On the way back to Wallingford, we were already planning our future involvement in the Model United Nations.
