Group 1 - Kayaking
We had a beautiful drive through Exmoor to arrive at the lake for Kayaking. We headed out for a practice in the land, then paddled out to deeper waters to practice capsizing – the water was cold to start with, but we soon warmed up as we wriggled our way back on board. We then navigated across to Valentine Bay and tried standing up in our boats, followed by belly-flopping down an upturned kayak – this was our favourite bit. We finished the day with a raft walking challenge, joining our kayaks together, while pairs had to race around without falling in. It was a tiring but enjoyable day!
Group 2 and 3 - Surfing
After a long minibus trek to the beach, we unloaded the boards and wriggled into the wetsuits. Following a brief safety chat and demonstration we hit the waves … there where brilliant waves for the beginners who then picked up skills quickly, whilst the more able surfers caught some good waves. Finally we went cliff jumping - not as scary as it sounds however it was still exhilarating.
