Maria Moreira Patricio, Nuffield Laboratory of Ophthalmology, University of Oxford
Curing blindness has been the focus of many research groups over the years, and recent gene therapy approaches are very promising. The Nuffield Laboratory of Ophthalmology in Oxford is currently leading a gene therapy trial to treat choroideremia, an inherited disorder that causes progressive vision loss leading to complete blindness. The Laboratory is also developing treatments for other causes of macular and retinal degeneration.
