As always it has been a busy week in the life of Wallingford School ...
We marked Remembrance Day in school on Tuesday with two minutes’ silence and a playing of the Last Post. As always, it was a very moving period of reflection. The displays of poppies on the windows of W block and in the Hall have again looked stunning and been part of the whole school community reflecting and remembering as we do at this time each year. Particular thanks must go to the students who played the Last Post who did a brilliant job.
Wednesday saw Sixth Form Open Evening and it was great to see our Year 11 students and a large number of young people who currently attend other schools listening to the presentations, experiencing taster lessons and thinking about their options for next year. The maturity and focus of young people at this age never fails to impress. Also impressive were the students who spoke – Orlagh and Wilfrid, our Head Students who are becoming public speaking veterans, and Flo and Zack in Year 12 who joined Wallingford School this year and spoke very effectively and fluently about their experience so far.
In House competitions, it has been House Mastermind week with an astonishing range and variety of specialist subjects and a real depth of general knowledge on display. This week’s assemblies have been about libraries and their importance. As always with assemblies, I won’t add any more here but please do ask at home. Our Student Leadership Team have also introduced this year’s appeal for Christmas donations for Wallingford Food Bank – more details on this to follow through our communication channels. Please also look out for details about the WSA quiz on Friday 28th November – tickets are available for teams and individuals to participate, and it is always an enjoyable, fun and somewhat competitive evening which raises valuable funds for our school.
